Repercussions of Our Words: Stop being a GIRL!

This photo essay illustrates the importance of how our words shape the younger generation and how connotations of suppression can manifest into direct and patterned cultural violence.

I illustrate this through the impact of comments like boys don't cry, stop being a girl, and you run like a girl, can create subconscious understandings in young boys and girls that the female gender is lesser than that of males. This feeds into the ideals that boys can hurt girls and it is ok: the acceptance and rationale between violence.

This photo essay was introduced and conducted in an unconventional way given that the classroom setting was removed from our first year education. Thus, peer reviewing from friends was used to work on this paper.
